However, the modified production process requires adapted quality assurance processes. For example, in-process control takes on a special role.

Dale Swarts has research and development experience in both large and small firms in the medical and aerospace industries. Through those companies, he’s been involved with the creation of highly crosslinked UHMWPE materials for hip and knee applications and the development of the first metal 3D printed devices cleared through the FDA to be produced and implanted in the United States. His most recent role was Chief Engineer of the Stryker Additive Manufacturing team with the goal of expanding the use of advanced manufacturing technologies across the corporation. Dale retired in 2020 and continues to offer consulting expertise in medical device development and testing, new materials and process creation, program management and a wide variety of additive manufacturing technologies.

Jay Elpano has a BS in mechanical engineering, an MBA, and over 25 years of exerience in metrology. He works for ZEISS Industrial Quality Solutions in Minneapolis, USA as the New Customer Segments Development Leader for North America and is well-versed with the latest trends in the medical market. Jay is also well known in the #measuringhero community on YouTube. In more than 100 vlog episodes he shares bi-weekly helpful tips and tricks for measurement tasks, meets metrologists from all over the world and gives insights into compelling companies.

Roger Landolt is Senior Software Solution Manger at ZEISS Industrial Quality Solutions. Roger supports customers in regulated markets, like medical or pharma, with FDA 21 CFR Part 11 compliant workflows by using integrated hardware and software applications. With more than 15 years of experience in software product management, he develops compliant solutions that increase customer’s productivity and compliancy.

Dr. Edson Costa Santos is an expert for quality assurance of additive manufactured products. As Senior Application Development Manager for Additive Manufacturing Process & Control at ZEISS Industrial Quality Solutions he knows about the relevant quality gates in the production process and helps customers to implement a holistic integrated quality process for additive manufacturing. In his previous positions, he served as Director of the Innovation Laser Material Processing Center - SENAI in Brazil.
